A little bit of MidMod play today

My poor computer has been out of commission for almost a week.  I finally got it back up and running today and decided to just play with some MidMod designs that I sketched last fall.  I love these simple wonky shapes and adore this fresh and modern color palette.  Sometimes I just like to play with colors to see how they look in a pattern.  I didn't really have a plan for this pattern, but knew I wanted the colors to be bold.  I really love how it turned out!  I would love to see this on some curtains in my living room!!  What would you use it on?

It's not always as simple as black and white.

HAHA!  This was an interesting challenge for me.  My work is typically full of  BIG BOLD COLOR.   Honestly, I have not done much using just black and white...even though that is how all of my work starts out.  So, I was surprised by how much this contrast drew me in!  Even though it has a very minimal color palette, it makes a BOLD statement.  It is clean and crisp and FABULOUS!  The palette definitely has a modern feel and I love that!  I have mocked up several designs to show you the possibilities.  Hope you enjoy Glenna as much as I do!

I am in love with this dress!!

Another play on Solveig

This was fun!  I used the blooms from my Solveig collection to create vintage inspired potted plants.  I remember right after I sketched the flowers I thought, "Hmmm...those look like pots on stems."  And so that sketch did double duty creating lovely flowers and playful pots.  WIN WIN!

Scandinavian Play...Introducing Solveig

There are many nationalities in my family, however the majority is Scandinavian.  I adore Scandinavian style, prints, and color.  Plus, being a Minnesota girl, there is no end to the multitudes of inspiration around me.  Scandinavian prints and textiles have a real vibrancy and playfulness to their design.  I thought it would be fun to play a bit with Scandinavian inspired elements and see what might develop.  I must say I am quite pleased with the way this collection came together.  And how fitting is the name Solveig?  I just LOVE it!  I also played a bit with some mockups to see how the patterns would look on pillows, cushions and lampshades.  I feel that Solveig would be absolutely wonderful on home decor items and would love to see that become a reality.  I hope you enjoy Solveig as much as I do!

Playtime

I have been away from designing for a little over 2 weeks now due to some computer difficulties.  Thankfully my troubles have been resolved and I am back in business.  But, I am actually feeling a bit tired tonight and decided to ease into things with some mock-up play.  I find it very gratifying playing with my patterns in mock-ups.  It opens up endless possibilities.  My hope is that my designs will truly bring other people joy by beautifying everyday items.
